Me and Aunt Izzy

Eleven-year old Jefferson Davis Johnson has been sentenced to a summer of "moral rehabilitation" under the watchful eye of his great aunt, Queen Isabella of Spain Johnson. A relic of the "roaring twenties," this stern matriarch may have her own ideas about what a boy should learn. Will three-years perfect attendance in his Presbyterian Sunday School be enough to protect Jeffie from the evils of drink, a warpathing aborigine, and the bright-eyed tomboy, Pauline Potts? And, for Pete's sake, does any other boy have a relative who cohabits with the ghost of Jesse James? The setting for this tale is Southeast Kansas, called "the Little Balkans," an area known for its coal mines and ethnic diversity. Author Max Yoho, a Kansan himself, has won numerous writing awards for his previous work, humorous fiction which includes The Revival; Tales from Comanche County; Felicia, These Fish Are Delicious; The Moon Butter Route and With the Wisdom of Owls.     birth?
...Harry had a godfather, Wyatt, who

...this precocious baby could converse
    in "High Owl" language?
...Wyatt had two brothers, Harry's
"owlces," also eager to help in Harry's
   education?
...Harry had to decide between staying
a human boy or becoming an owl
   himself?

With the Wisdom of Owls, by Max Yoho

In Check out Max Yoho's funny book Dalton writes, “The first sentence in the book is, ‘Never let reality limit your life.’ And this book stands as a testimony that Max Yoho practices what he preaches. The fun I had reading it proves I have elbowed reality into its proper place in my life." —Dalton Roberts, Life/Entertainment section, Chattanooga Time Free Press, June 29, 2010.

“Anything Max Yoho writes is worth reading so you must not miss this slim, new volume. Every page offers something unique, humorous and different and, as with Max’s other works, the reader will benefi t from reading it more than once.”
Bill Shaffer, Producer/Director, KTWU-TV, Channel 11

The name Yoho is Swiss, perhaps
once spelled Yoheaux and, later, Joho.
It is believed that all Yohos in the United
States are decended from the same
immigrant parents, who arrived in
Philadelphia in the 1750s.
